Whatever your political affiliation, last week every citizen of the United States (and every citizen of the world) saw the American Dream and the American ideal demonstrated firsthand. Americans proved we actually act and deliver on our declarations. We have claimed that America is the land where anyone, from any background, any race, creed or color can achieve anything they set their mind to. President-Elect Barack Obama is confirmation that these promises are indeed true.
It is my belief that it doesn’t matter who is president in regards to how your life works out. The only person responsible for your present reality and your future opportunities is you. Hope, change and the betterment of your future are not dependent upon who lays their head on the pillow in the White House. You have to take responsibility for your own hope. You have to be the creator of your own change. You have to design and act on your own better future. Nobody is going to do it for you, not even the president.
The only person responsible for your present reality and your future opportunities is you.
Does this sound obvious to you? You would think so, but I continually hear how things are going to get better when…. When there is a new president, when the economy gets better, when gas prices come down, etc. National policies, changing interest rates, the world financial market — none of these factors determine how your life works out. Those are variables given to all of us. It is how you decide to view those variables and how you respond to those variables that ultimately matter. Indeed, only you have control of your future. Jim Rohn has a fitting quote:
“It is not what happens to you that makes the difference in how your life works out — what happens to you happens to all of us; it’s how you respond to what happens to you that determines the major outcome of your life.”
Here is how President-Elect Barack Obama can change your life: The greatest direct impact he can have on your life and your potential future, he has already completed. His victory last Tuesday eliminated any possible excuse any of us were holding onto, and he showed us that, truly, all things are possible. He has proven to each of us that we CAN achieve the seemingly impossible. No matter how improbable or how unlikely the goal, regardless of where we come from or how we start out, any of us can achieve anything.
Let his testimony and this historical moment inspire and awaken your own “improbable” and seemingly “impossible” dreams and ambitions. By this measure, he has already been one of the greatest presidents of our lifetime.

11/Nov/2008 1I couldn’t agree more. We need to quit viewing ourselves as victims of market conditions, who’s in congress, who’s in the White House etc.. With all the current problems we still live in the greatest country in the world. There are countless examples of individuals rising out of very humble cirmcumstances to remarkable achievements. Barrack Obama started with nothing to become President of the United States, that does prove the limitless opportunities this nation offers.

11/Nov/2008 2Well put. Isn’t it ironic that people are not breaking down our walls to get out of this country, but breaking down our walls to get in. In America anything is possible.

11/Nov/2008 4I agree as well. Jim Rohn talks a lot in his materials about this as well. It does not matter who is in Washington DC, what matters is what I do in my own life!

11/Nov/2008 5Very well stated, Mr Hardy. If there was ever any shadow of a doubt as to what’s achievable, it is now forever eliminated. It is time to look toward the future and obtain the impossible!!

11/Nov/2008 6I totally agree. We have the seen the power of faith, confidence, and choice in achieving a dream.
The wonderful privledge we have in America is the freedom of choice. We can choose whatever
course in life we want and if we believe in ourselves, visualize, and do the work, it will be given
unto us. The election of Barack Obama on last week has rekindled my inner desire to pursue my
business aspirations and I feel wonderful to live in such a great country where I can walk to the
beat of my own drum and make things happen. Congratulations to all who pursue their American
dream. Congratualtions to Barack Obama for being the perfect example.
Thanks Mr. Hardy for such an inspiration blog.

11/Nov/2008 7I don’t see how Barack Obama winning the election is the embodiment of the American Dream. He did it by playing the political game which is one of the worst aspects of our American political system. Now our security as a nation is threatened.
You are correct that the we can still do well regardless of market conditions. But when you are vulnerable to attack because you don’t have a solid plan for the defense of our country, it does affect all of us.
Sorry, I don’t think that skin color has anything to do with being qualified to lead our country.

11/Nov/2008 8I very much agree; Barack Obama is the epitome of the American Dream, realized. He’s shown us that with hard work and drive, any one of us can achieve anything. As he would say, “yes we can!”

12/Nov/2008 11Great article Darren and very true. Barack Obama is one of us. Through his belief in himself, hard work and determination, he succeeded in his life. He has achieved his potential, his dream.
We have to do the same and succeed in our own lives… one step at a time, one day at a time.
Thank you

12/Nov/2008 12Let’s not beat up on Eunice, all this magazine and the people and Mr. Hardy state that once we get the negative influences out of our lives and focus on our dreams, hopes, and vision anyone can accomplish anything they put their mind too. Mrs. Eunice you need to stop looking at media as a whole and start reading Success Magazine more even if you have to read it a dozen times to get an understanding especially Dec. issue because it talks about ” Take Control of Your Life.”

12/Nov/2008 13Great Blog. In fact, I just read the quote by a former pres candidate, who said, get up in the morning, look in the mirror. that is your job security.
I dont know if we chose the right president, is he ready to lead a country? I dont know. I did not vote for him, but as I told my friends, we as a country chose him, so I will back him up. Our country needs the solidarity, I really think the country is so divided, it makes a difference.
It is your beliefs, and your committment that will make you stand out as a leader. Why do most people look for scapegoats to blame thier lack of success? Would they give the credit to thier success to the president if they had become successfuly under the Bush president? Probably not.

12/Nov/2008 14Mr. Hardy you’re 100% correct! The speculation is over. Americans as a group have decided. The stage is Obama’s. A tremendous burden will fall to him — the most dangerous of times — but he will also receive an opportunity to ease the strains and make up for the mistakes that delivered us to this difficult period. By summoning a renewed and expanded version of the audacity of hope that propelled his campaign, and with the assistance of all Americans, Obama can move us, this nation and our world forward. The questions I need to address. What am I willing to do? What am I willing to change? What commitments will I make to insure a safer and more Successful life? How will this impact my life during my next four year term? I get it! Thank you Darren!

12/Nov/2008 15I appreciate this article and think this part sums it up well:
‘The greatest direct impact he can have on your life and your potential future, he has already completed. Understanding this, I believe more than ever in the power of change. As my mentor, Jim Rohn says, “For things to change, you have to change.” I am in awe of the accomplishments of Barack Obama; however, I understand that he has a limited amount of influence on my own life and/or future opportunities. He has simply shown us the possibilities, and if we will simply learn from his story, we can create our own stories as well. As Jim Rohn asks in his ‘Challenge to Succeed’, what if the economy were to improve, taxes were lowered, the Democrats were in power, or your negative relatives decided to be positive, what would that do for your life? Answer: Not much. You said it best, Mr. Hardy, “The only person responsible for your present reality and your future opportunities is you.” let’s take responsibility for our own lives and hold ourselves accountable for what we expect from life. Don’t just get through the day, get from the day.

13/Nov/2008 16While I appreciate the direction of your article Mr. Hardy, I also agree with Eunice.
Having an Afro-American President is a great accomplishment for all of us, only I didn’t vote based on historical achievement, I voted based on character and recorded documentation.
I do not equate my successes or lack of successes to anyone but myself. I also will support our President-Elect and Have the Audacity to Hope that Barack Obama loves Democracy and America, unlike his unacceptable associations. One of the first things I learned on my personal development journey is that we are the average of the five top people we hang around. Time will tell.

14/Nov/2008 17Yes, time will tell. I just hope the political promises of changes will materialize for the best of the United States. Reassuring the safety and integrity of everyone.

15/Nov/2008 18Majeeda captured what I was thinking, I’m a big fan of Mr. Rohn’s works as well. Our success starts with us, how we think and what we do, regardless of the economy, the markets, the political landscape, we must do our part. We create our own opportunities by lots of factors. Reading good stuff like these articles plants seeds in our minds that can grow and be nurtured along the way. We have the responsibility to take action with what we know, we need to plant, and as Jim would say, plant don’t chant.
Jim, also say’s if someone says it well, borrow, so I’ll borrow for a moment., from

So credit is due, read it again, and again. You have a frame work, to work in, the rules are pretty stable, there is some tweeking going on, hear and there, work with it, find out about the changes, have a good team around you to help undertsand what you need to understand. And if your really smart, you might even stop watching TV and possibly stop reading the newspaper, bad news sells, so why not read a good book about harvesting instead!
Have a blessed day.

18/Nov/2008 19Hello Darren,
I talk my dad in few day ago about what you said “it dont matter who is president”. My dad said Obama is not your boss, no one control your money, whatever you do with money to not invest or invest to business. Obama just service to USA of President to protect us. President have high power to control army, navy, ect…. and have the “2nd” power to veto. control the our taxes. what ever president doing those thing i just list it, but does not control our/ your business. WE ARE OPPORTUNITY and do whatever we can set up our own business. President make sure our USA still have freedom for us to have own business. That what we need. We are very lucky that we have freedom to do that. Other country dont have lot freedom alike our country. We are blessed with president and this America that give us freedom.
Hello everyone….. If you vote John McCain and he lost, dont let that sad to you. just go out and build business even if Obama suck or not. He not here to feed you and put you in bed every night and say everything will be ok. YOU ARE OPPORTUNITY. You are the one to make move.

19/Nov/2008 21Well said Darren. This election just reaffirmed what I have always believed. That anything is possible in the United States of America. There are no excuses for people not to accomplish their dreams if they want to. The key is to take responsibility for the outcome of our own individual life. Change, choice, and decision will be key words for each of us. We need to use Barack Obama’s example as inspiration to drive us to accomplish our own dreams. Thanks for the great work you are doing with Success Magazine.

25/Nov/2008 22No matter whom we have chosen to lead our country, that leader will need every Americans belief in our country and the drive to do what is needed. Mr Obama said it clearly it is up to us as Americans to make the changes in our daily activities to make our USA a better country. Enviromentally, financally and morally we as a people need to change our way’s. Do you recycle? do you have a savings plan, stop and think where do I want to be in 5 or 10 years and what changes do I want for my country, what do we want for our childrens future. Clean air, water how as an American can I help to accomplish this. Pay it forward give thanks for all you have and work harder for what you want.
As an American this is my dream. Happy Thanks Giving to all, I am thankfull for you and your desires for a better future.

25/Nov/2008 23I couldn’t agree more. Now no one can say, gee ,I could never do that !!!! Who in our life time over the years , ever thought that this incredible event would ever take place ??? It doesn’t truly matter where you come from, but where you want to go in life.

28/Nov/2008 24IT IS SO TRUE!!
we all Have CHOICES,, How We choose to RESPOND to them determines what the outcome will be, Excuses are just that Excuses.
We can all choose to do things differently, like go greener,by simple things, that acually save money.we can choose to be Negitive or POSITIVE,,I with all my situations, Choose The Later..
So do what You alone can do,Not what The new Governor or President,or anyone else…Do YOUR PART…and Join the rest of us who Choose to make a difference,One day at a TIME…

28/Nov/2008 25I wish more Americans could think the way you do Darren. When people blame the President, the economy, taxes, whatever on their problem ridden life they disempower themselves from change. They create their own limiting beliefs about their own ability to be proactive and really be the creative force in their lives. By blaming things on the outside people are also empowering those things, leaving them with feeling of being out of control and helpless. As far as Obama goes, yes I definitely believe he should be a symbol of the hope for change and the endless possibilities in all of our lives. At the same time I agree with Eunice when we should value people for their character and competence above race and other external factors.
