“Don’t be realistic. Shoot for the top!” – FSU Coach Bobby Bowden on goal-settingFeatured in our Lessons from Sports section as part of the November issue of SUCCESS magazine, Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden has nurtured and challenged the Seminole team to capture 12 Atlantic Coast championships since they joined the ACC conference in 1991. He’s shepherded two Heisman trophy winners and been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Now in his 34th season at FSU at the budding age of 79, Coach Bowden still remains FSU’s head coach and says he has “…no desire to get out.”
When our SUCCESS contributing editor Don Yaeger—a former associate editor for Sports Illustrated—sat down to interview Coach Bowden on goal-setting, he told me he was blown away by Coach Bowden’s passion and dedication to the discipline of college football—and his unwavering commitment to helping the men on his team achieve their goals, confiding that, “We all have to have a reason to get up each day. Those young men give me mine.”
Listen to this candid interview with Coach Bowden on what he’s still learning at 79 about setting and achieving both his professional and personal goals.
