Harvey Mackay famously teaches that “People buy from other people because of likeability.”
I like Harvey, millions of people worldwide like Harvey, and I think you will too after you listen to my interview with him on the CD in this month’s issue of SUCCESS and the additional excerpts below.
Likability as well as many other savvy networking skills is what helped propel his first business from a failing enterprise to a 100+ million dollar corporation employing over 600 people. You can read more about the life and the legend of Harvey Mackay in our coveted SUCCESS Legend feature in this month’s issue of SUCCESS.
My one-on-one interview with Harvey was enlightening as well as exhilarating. Although this is content usually reserved for our subscribers, I wanted to share it with my valued blog readers and our SUCCESS.com audience. I’ve also included the link to download the Mackay 66 Customer Profile that Harvey personally calls his trade secret for not just winning clients—but keeping them.
So take about fifteen minutes to listen to the clips below and let me know what you think:

• How to motivate and inspire others
• Strategies for a successful marriage (Harvey has been married 49 years!)
• Overcoming failure and how to pick yourself back up
• Building a personal Board of Advisors.
Clip 2: In this next clip Harvey shares some keen insights on these topics and more:
• Where people go wrong in networking – mistakes made

09/Oct/2009 1Hi Darren, in my opinion, you obviously saved the best for last. Harvey Mackay’s final secret to entertaining his audience was the best for anyone looking to win over any crowd or to win at a business meeting. Success certainly does leave clues, we just need to put away our doubts and just follow the footprints.
Thank you so much.

09/Oct/2009 2Hi Darren:
No matter what business you’re in - you’re in the relationship business. I find that most people/intrepreneurs that I meet think that if they have a good product, that’s all they need to propel them to success.
Thank you for sharing.

21/Oct/2009 6Darren,
Harvey’s point about the importance of getting together face-to-face with a customer or prospective client cannot be overemphasized. I see far too many people using email, social media and the phone to try to build these important relationships. I believe as Harvey stated, 100 years from now, getting together in-person will still be the best way to build relationships.
Too many people look for the short cuts to succes. There is no short cut to building meaningful relationships.
You are doing a great job on these interviews. They contain the best information I review each month.
[DARRENHARDY] Harvey did make a great point. Personal face-time is EXTREMELY important in relationship building. Social media simply helps open the door to new (and sometimes old) relationships and is a great information tool, especially for small businesses. But nothing can replace a little one-on-one personal time, especially in the early days of any relationship. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Todd!

07/Nov/2009 8Thank you so much for the Harvey Mackay interview. He is obviously a wise businessman. I particularly liked his idea of having a ‘kitchen membership board’ and
his keen interest in people which have no doubt contributed to his successs. Thanks for
sharing so openly your success ’secrets’. May we use these ideas not only to grow
good businesses but to become better people.
Thanks again.
