Enough Already!!
No more whining, bitching, moaning, griping and complaining.
At a social function recently, 90 percent of the chitchat I heard were whimpers about the economy, how bad Obama is doing and how much the health care plan sucks, ad nauseam.
Finally, I had heard enough and I blurted out, “In the ‘80’s when the economy was booming, did you get rich?”
“Uh, well, no” answered the small crowd’s speaker.
“But Reagan was president and still you didn’t? What about when Clinton was President? He created a big national surplus, certainly you got rich then?”
“If you were standing in the healthcare haven of France right now, as you describe, would you be any healthier than you are now?”
Silence was his answer.
“Look”, I said, “stop worrying about the national economy and focus on your own economy. Don’t worry about who’s running the White House and concern yourself with running your house better. The only health care plan that matters is your health care plan… for you.”
In my observation, it is just as easy to fail in a good economy as it is in a bad one. And it is just as easy to get rich in a bad economy as it is in a good one. Why? Because the economy has nothing to do with it.
I know many good, capable, smart and hardworking people who have been whacked by unexpected consequences of the economic winter we are in. It happens to the best of people even in the best of times.
Instead, start focusing on what you can control, what you can do, what’s possible and what’s great. Note the abundance and opportunity all around you… no matter the national economic report. Just focus on your report… and your life.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, depressed, stressed, defeated or even just uninspired, try this exercise:
1. Make a three-column list.
2. Write down things that are affecting our world, our nation, your state or your business. (Ex.: war in Afghanistan, Toyota and GM recalls, car bombings in Iraq, healthcare reform, etc.)
3. Write down all the news that you or your friends have discussed this week. (Ex.: unemployment figures, who won an Oscar, who shouldn’t have gotten booted off American Idol, 911 terrorist trial location, etc.)
4. Write down all the things you are worried about in your life. (Ex.: finding a job, survivability of your business, kids having difficulty in school, arguing with spouse, health condition of family member, your own health condition, etc.)
5. Next, write down if you have any control affecting the outcome of that situation.
a. If you don’t, stop worrying (and paying attention!) because you can’t do anything about it. It has no immediate impact on your life, so wipe it from your mental plate.
b. If you do, write down what you can do to take control, improve the situation, and most important, what is the next step to take.
6. Lastly, write down your top three goals for the year and write down the next single step you can take to move closer.
Remember, stop giving attention to the things you can’t control and have no bearing on your personal life. If you can do something about it, decide what part of it you can control and affect. Then take positive action.
Don’t get stuck standing still. Contemplating and, certainly, complaining about things you don’t have control over is simply lunacy.
Only you are responsible for your success or failure, happiness or sadness, stress or vitality, scarcity or abundance, appreciation or depression. You choose what you experience. And you choose by what you give attention to, what you think about, what you talk about and what you do or don’t do about it.
Remember, this is the greatest time of opportunity and unlimited possibility ever available in all human history! To understand or remind yourself of why, review these articles:

Darren,
GREAT article & so, so true. Most of us, myself included, get caught up in the the BS around us that either we have no control over or really doesn’t effect us on a daily basis, instead of making things happen in out lives!!
This is an article that everyone of us should read more than once, especially when we find ourselves getting back into the rut!!
[DARREN HARDY] Thanks Jeff, appreciate you taking the time to comment. Pass this message around, you can just send this link: http://darrenhardy.success.com/2010/03/enough-already/

Darren,
Thanks for the article. It was a good slap on the back as I was feeling sad about a very personal situation in my life this morning that I do not have any control over. Your comments brought about a reality check for me that I needed. Thanks for writing it.

What a great entry.
I’ve felt the same way when listening to peoples constant complaining about the current situation of the economy and possible outcomes of nationalized health care. It’s empowering to have a method, such as the one you mentioned, to put things into perspective as far as what we should be concerning ourselves with. After all, if there is nothing we can do personally to enact change then what more is it than a burden to worry about them?
I undoubtedly will use this method in the future and will probably share it with others as well.
[DARREN HARDY] Thanks Joel. Help spread the word. Help us silence the whiners! http://darrenhardy.success.com/2010/03/enough-already/

Way to nail it!!! And I couldn’t agree with you more. There’s nothing worse than sitting next to someone who has nothing better to do than to point fingers at the rest of the world and why they are not where they want to be in life. Bottom line, we’re all individually responsible for where we are and how we got there. Winning about it isn’t going to fix anything…great advice and I will repost this link as well as send to my sales force. Thanks again
[Reply]
Congratulation! This is simply the best article I have read all year!! You are right. Thank-you!!

Great article, fantastic advice. However, when good people do nothing, bad people rule. You can’t always take the position that nothing can be done about it or someone else will save us. If we all rollover and let them destroy our health care system, what will the poor Canadians do for health care? Facts are facts regardless or what you speak about them. So please, let’s all do what we can to stop this takeover of our country, otherwise nothing else counts. Let your elected representatives know how you feel and then on to making your fortune. Keep a positive attitude but fight this takeover like a “junk yard dog”.

Darren,
Thank you and well written! I love your magazine, thank you so much. I usually just tune out the negative….and if that doesn’t work then I ask them what they can do to change it. Usually I don’t get too many volunteers, but…………they do quit throwing up on me, and I remain in a positive space. I plan on re-posting this as well.
Thanks again, and you have an amazing day,
[Reply]
Absolutely! I lost my job with this economic crisis and my hubby’s retirement was cut back. BUT, I’m not sitting around whining about it. I am working my way back to where I want to be as a home-based business owner. There are many good opportunities out there. Yes, our voices need to be heard in Congress, but don’t think someone is going to solve your problems for you. I think some citizens (and some non-citizens) feel they are entitled to a certain standard of living. If you’re not where you want to be, get out there and make it happen.
[DARREN HARDY] Good for you Cindy! Picking yourself up through your own home-based business just might be what takes you to a level of success, freedom and happiness previously impossible!
[Reply]
AMEN!
There are two types of people when it comes to the economy. Those that gripe about everything and do nothing. And those that keep a positive attitude, keep plugging along like nothing is wrong and make a killing.
Why do companies like Coke and Bud advertise more during a recession? They GAIN market share. The competition lays down and rolls over while they work to GROW the companies.
I refuse to participate in the recession.

I start each day with positive affirmations. There are two I repeat often throughout the day: 1)Remember, your thoughts become your life….choose carefully what you think about. 2)I will replace any fearful or negative thoughts instantly with positive thoughts and the visions of my worthy goals…I will focus on solutions! Thanks for such an amazing magazine. I am proud to be a reader!
[DARREN HARDY] Thanks for being a ‘proud reader’ Tammy! And thanks for sharing your daily positive affirmations. Would be an amazing place if more people did the same each and every day!

Darren, I love your response! Thanks for sharing. You sound, “Fired up, and ready to go.”

Finally! Somebody is speaking the TRUTH and not simply adding to the pervasive ‘doom and gloom’ messages. We all need to take personal responsibility, take action, and stop making excuses for what’s not working in our careers, our businesses, and our lives. Thank you, Darren.
[DARREN HARDY] Love your enthusiasm, Julie! You definitely got it!

Excellent advice, and sometimes hard to follow…it is easy to get caught up in the minutiae of daily life when everybody around you is whining and complaining. Do what you can do and let the rest go.
Also, as a Canadian I am not sure what Joe means by his statement – we have amazing health care in Canada that everybody can access, at least for the basics of general health. We value it and realize we are very fortunate compared to some other countries.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Everyone who is capable of reading English should read this article and take away from it. Positive affirmations is the way to go – it makes life worth living and goals are brilliantly achieved when we realize we are capable of reaching them. The more rich we know we are the richer we become – in life, finances and whatever aspect we want to be rich in. Dream and act to achieve.

It’s my b’day, but i’m just so out of the zone. Have not been able to find another position in 11 months. Everything’s lost, savings wiped out, house on the verge of being handed over to the bank, etc etc trying, trying to “hear” you and keep my chin up but it’s zapping my energy to fake “Oh, i’m doing great”. HOWEVER, I will continue to try to dig myself out of the mental hole. Thanks, will apply your words to my situation tomorrow.
[DARREN HARDY] DNelson, just reading you is bumming me out. I get it, life sucks for you right now… but don’t linger there… and certainly stop telling your sad story… keeps you focused on the sadness. Talk about what you are doing, learning, researching, looking for and going for. Look around you for examples of abundance and opportunity, not validations of all the sucks. We are here for you D… dig yourself out. HAPPY birthday by the way. Today is the first day of the best year of your life yet. It can be, it’s a choice… but requires you choosing. Do it D!
[Reply]
Great commentary as always Darren! The best action we can all take to have a more bright and positive future (myself included!) is to turn off the constant negative news that is blaring from the television daily and to avoid reading the regular daily newspapers that always seem to put the most negative headlines on the front page. A true statement has been mentioned many times is “The only economy that matters is the one between your ears.”
[Reply]
Darren, we’re on the same page. I told me wife today that almost everyone is an emotion drain because all they think and talk about are problems. I think for some people they look for bad news to justify why their life sucks.
I am convinced that people’s lives will not get better until such time they change their attitude and outlook. After all, is it possible for things to improve in your life when you are focused on all the doom and gloom? NO!
Now is the time for real leaders to step up to the plate. How is the time to gain market share. Now is when those with a positive attitude will stand out like a beacon in the night.
[Reply]
Thanks, Darren! We have taken the positive approach in our business this year. Focusing on abundance and opportunity instead of scarcity! We teach and share our positive approach to life and business to our team every Friday morning. Our sales are up 40% over last year and we are tracking for our best year ever in 20 years. Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become habits, habits become character!

Thank you!! I have spent the day at work today listening to people worrying about what might happen 3 years from now! I had a client tell me she could get run over by a bus and leave her children motherless. I asked why did you get out of bed this morning, but more importantly how does one worry about something that one has no control over to begin with?
I was told “you should worry because bad things happen”. Yes bad things happen only because all the worrying and negative thinking make those things show up!!
We do control one thing–our reaction to what happening to us and how we think–the mindset.
This world would be in such a better place if people would wake up, thank G-d they are alive, their health is intact–everything else is gravy after that!
Please continue Darren and those of us on this special path need to bring more people on board–positivity should rule–not negativity!!

I dunno Darren. I’m considered a social outcast amongst my peers. I have them all trained to know if they whine about losses, I’ll be excited about growth, regardless if the growth is .01% or 1000%. Sometimes I’m like a dog that is just excited to be alive. I don’t let people dominate a conversation unless it’s positive.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I thought the world was landing on my head and I asked my attorney if I had a Trump card. He told me the most inspiring thing anyone has ever said to me. He said, “You may not have a Trump card, but you have options.” I was super excited and empowered to STOP doing what I hated doing. Now instead of dreading the same old same old, I am pushing harder than ever to go down each and every avenue of choices that look like they will bring me closer to my goal of world domination.

I will continue to focus my attention on my goals every day, knowing that my God is way bigger than any problems. So, to that brother D, today is the first day of the rest of your life – start again today and never, ever, quit! I know you can get it all done and I have yet to see it in your face. As it’s been said, if you can look up, you can get up; you were just knocked down, not knocked out! Take charge, I am!
[Reply]
Darren thanks, this is so on point. It is so easy to get caught up and follow the VAST majority that are in this mode. The hardest part is separating yourself from it, in my experience. It is essential though. Cut it out, shut it out or use it as inspiration when you can’t avoid it. It is so frustrating to say as you did there, then over and over again be looked at like you are the odd cog in the wheel. If you have already made it there and have all the results then you are believable if not so much harder. When you have noone that is of the same mindset, how do you keep on track?
[DARREN HARDY] Everyone who has (made it) once hadn’t. The reason why the did was the believed in themselves on the inside when there was no evidence on the outside. The continued to move forward everyday regardless of circumstances.

This is such a great article – I had to smile. I raised four children as a solo parent and one of my favorite mantras was that it did not matter the economy or the party that was in the white house, I still had to nurture them and be financially responsible, as Darren said, (in essence) it’s not about what’s going on out there but what’s going on with YOU! Right on.

Thank you Darren. You are a real inspiration. We need more people like you telling what is right and positive. People need to quit listening to the new and watching TV, because that is all they feed on. They ask you if you are partisipating in the Mental Cleanse you turn off all new media and internet. They study and mastermind “Think and Grow Rich”. This is one way to feed your mind on the good and positive that is there, you just have to shut out all the other trash. Thanks for all you do to help feed our minds with what’s positive.

What a great perspective! As a Christian I have to listen to my friends complain endlessly about the economy, politics, moral issues etc. What is amazing is that Jesus lived in a time and place where the government could kill you with no recourse, poverty was rampant and morality was almost non existent. Yet he spent most of his time raising up and empowering people to exist and make a difference right where they are. I agree with Darren, make a difference or be quiet!

Darren,
I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate your stand for positive thinking and focus. I spent so much of my young adult life allowing myself to be negative about so many things. There was always this feeling inside of me that life could somehow be different but I was just missing the point. It was not until recently when I lost my father and I was walking through my kitchen telling myself, “I’m getting depressed,” that I realized right there in front of my pantry, that I am only getting depressed because I’m telling myself that I feel that way and that God, and everything about life becomes what I believe it is. In that very moment I decided that I would live differently. That I would think differently, no matter what…no matter how painful… I have been inundating my mind with thoughts of hope, faith, goodness and what I have decided life will be for me. Recently something that by most people’s estimation would be seen as negative and unfair took place in my life, but instead of getting sad and feeling self pity, I rejoiced because for the first time in my life I did not allow circumstances to control my emotions! That is such great freedom and I’m glad that there is someone out there who thinks like me! Sekenah Daye
[DARREN HARDY] Wow, Sekenah! Kudos to you for taking control of your life DECIDING to make the change. Thanks so much for sharing your story with us!!!

My driving Scripture: In all things give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Darren,
I always appreciate the articles you write and the things you say. This article gives a great list of things to do and it is true that we have to take charge of every situation in our lives.
A bit of advice, if anyone finds themselves depressed, you need to take your healthcare into your own hands and make sure that you don’t have a THYROID issue. As a generally positive thinker I found myself in this situation a year ago and come to find out, there was something very wrong with my body that was causing this. I take every opportunity since then to promote THYROID HEALTH AWARENESS because there is nothing worse than being a positive person and wondering what in the world is happening to me. There was a physical reason for my feelings that could not be “meditated or removed from my body just through my choice”. For all of you who feel great today, but find yourself in this situation at some point down the road remember this advice. If you are a normally upbeat, positive person but find yourself depressed, take control of your health and find the cause.
I am in no way related to anyone at these sites but recommend http://www.thyroid.about.com and http://www.thyroidawarenessmonth.com where you can read about everyday people as well as celebrities who have overcome thyroid health problems and got back their positive attitude and successful way of living.
[Reply]
I totally agree with you. Each of us in this country/world needs to embrace that attitude to propel society higher. We should also remember to not give up on our country’s problems just because we don’t feel we have direct control over them. The first step to increasing our influence is this attitude you described but remember that we must not stop there and set our goals higher and look further ahead. As we are more concerned about your own house over of the white house we are better able to expand our circle of influence and look further ahead than just today and think bigger than just ourselves. Life is a game of chess that we can’t play like it is checkers and expect to win. Until we take your advice first we cannot expect to progress to the point to be able to do things to influence local, county, state and eventually national policy for the betterment of ourselves and our posterity.
[Reply]
WELL SAID! I could not agree more! I turn off my radio and turn my car into Automobile University. I do not watch the news. I do not read the paper! (I do watch CNBC for my stock info, and if anything really important happens they break in with the story). I am still informed but not inundated with negativity.
No more negative! I think and speak words of praise and thanks several times daily. Is it a coincidence that I’ve never been happier, more at peace, or more successful than now? I think not!
All I can say, Darren is: Carpe Diem!
[DARREN HARDY] Exactly, Amy!! CARPE DIEM!

I’ve been saying “quit your bitching” for a while now. I’m surrounded by whiners who are inactivists. I’m an activist. They need to talk to somebody else because I don’t want to hear anymore whining.

Darren,
I loved this post … particularly your response! It is so much easier to look outward at all the negative things that are happening around us and blame them for our unhappiness. For some reason we think it excuses us from taking responsibility for our own lives and for the results we are getting. We then feel justified for postponing those things that we could do today that would move us closer to our dreams while we watch someone else’s dreams playing out on TV. I know I’ve been guilty of it at times.
I hope I can get lots of people to follow the link on my blog to yours so that they can be just as inspired by you as I am to take action and start making a difference today! Thank you so much for sharing and everything you do!!!
~ Andy
[DARREN HARDY] Thanks for sharing the link on your blog, Andy!!! Spread the word so we can put an end to all the whiners TODAY!

It’s amazing how the news influences so many people’s opinions. I truly believe the news has talked us into each serious economic problem we’ve had for the last 10 years. The results of all this talking about how it’s going to get bad, have people believing that it IS bad. Then they stink at talking us into thinking it’s good. I instinctively stopped watching and listening to the news years back and it helps my mental state continually. I don’t freak out until I start seeing the results in the real world I interact with and then it, strangely, never seems as bad as everyone else says it is. So making up my own mind based upon my own experiences seems to keep me positive longer and takes me out of the negative faster.

Can I get an AMEN! Well said. Thanks for speaking for the rest of us that’s tired of the whining and want the whiners to stop whining and get out of the way so the rest of us can get by and on with our lives! Thank you!

Great article Darren, We are what we think and talk about. I you want success think success other wise you will be without a rudder. There a rules for success but none for failure. When we think about what we want and take action we get results. When we have a defiled state of mind, suffering will follow.

Darren,
This is the wake up we all need. Too many spend their energy complaining and not taking action. When someone complains to me I ask “what are you going to do to change it?”. THey either change their outlook or never complain to me again (added bonus)

Great post Darren,
I learned a long time ago that we are exactly where we are supposed to be as a result of the choices we have made. Sometimes that is a very hard pill to swallow. The good news is that where we are going is a direct result of the choices we make from today onward. While we are busy complaining, griping (call it whatever you want) we are not busy doing. If we put even 10% of our energy into doing positive things, the negative ones would disappear forevery. Keep up the fabulous work. I always appreciate your comments.

Thanks Darren for the reminder that each of us are responsible for OUR WORLD..the one that we are affected by, the one that we are responsible for and that world that we personally create for ourselves and our families. The proactive approach that I have taken for this yr. is 2010 The Year of the Open Door and this year it’s my responsibility and accountability for what I have and will not have in my life. I am accountable for the results of my life. Not only must I declare it and decree it but I must ACT UPON IT. I have learned I can get MORE MILEAGE IN LIFE THROUGH MY PRAISE than I can for my COMPLAINT.
Thanks again !

Fantastic article Darren, I appreciate your voice and love how you always remind me that I am responsible for me and my own!

Thanks Darren. What a great reminder. The next dinner party my wife drags me to, I am going to mention your article. Then maybe we can move on and talk about something more interesting than how bad everything is. Keep up the good work!
[DARREN HARDY] Don’t tell your wife it was my doing! I get in enough trouble for stirring the pot from my own wife! BTW, it doesn’t necessarily make you popular with those who love the pity party.

My husband and I are both entrepreneurs and we have had a sign posted for 2 years on our refrigerator and at our offices stating “The Economy is Booming”. My business has grown 20% each year for the last 3 years! It’s about really looking inside yourself to transform who you are – become the BEST YOU, you can be – and the rest will follow…

Great Darren!
There is so much nagitivity arround. Yesterday I was thinking how was I ever going to achive my dream. I was thinking so hard on what I could do and what positive action I could take. I saw nothing at first but then a simple positive action came to me that I had never though of, and it worked and worked better than I had ever dreamed. I can see that with every nagitive thought there is a positive thought as well. Thanks so much Darren.
[DARREN HARDY] Kudos for making the change so quickly, Gerald! Keep it up!

A good thought to remember..we become like those we hang around with!
Are your friends, family or social group positive or negative? Do a gut check…they will rub off on us! Thanks Darren..great, great reminders.

Excellent advise Darren. I use to be like the people you addressed, until my Director invited me to be a part of the Best 10 years. Thank you. I have some people around me who need to hear this. Thanks again.

Darren – this is so true – and look how tens of thousands of children aged 8 to 13 are already doing this across the sub-continent … and soon around the world. The next generation fills me with extraordinary hope. Have a look at http://www.designforchange.squarespace.com – and be humbled and inspired. There ought to be a major feature about this in your magazine.

I have chosen to tackle this in a very simple fashion, I got myself a coach to reduce my financial stress, and I pay a little at a time. I don’t watch the news, I don’t spend hours dwelling on newspapers or magazines. I read what I want, I watch decorating and cooking shows. I choose to ignore how the world is doing. I do keep my mind on good thoughts for everybody because I believe in good energy and it’s power.
Do I feel sorry for anybody? Of course I do. I would have to live under a rock not to know about the recent eartquakes in Chile and Haiti. Since I am unemployed, I sent them a $10 donation through my cell phone account, said a prayer and every time I think about them I think good thoughts. I don’t sit here dwelling on it. It is not good for my personal health and it does not help the situation.
Life has ups and downs. We only have control over certain things. The best thing is to smile, be nice to all people, stop judging others and their circumstances and hope for the best. It will get better.

The whiners and complainers will always be out there, no matter what the economy. I choose to surround myself with people who are positive and goal oriented. They don’t see problems, they see opportunity. They don’t see failure, they see a learning experience. I can’t avoid the negative people, but what I will say is, “So what are you going to do about it?” Be someone who encourages change that uplifts and encourages. Nobody likes a whiner. Me, I run for the hills. There is reasoning with someone like that and I prefer not to get caught up in all the drama that surrounds them. Positive people lack drama and move on to what they CAN do.

[DARREN HARDY] Exactly, Layne! Glad to have you on our side!!!

Once again, Darren, a thoughtful and much-needed message. It is sad to think how many people blame their troubles on others and use it as an excuse to avoid working toward their own goals. I believe this nation suffers from the debilitating disease of “against-itis,” where people try to find a sense of purpose in destroying the efforts of others, rather than advancing their own passions. It is sad to think about the hours and hours of radio and television time (to say nothing of the thousands of pages of internet space) that people spend trying to convince others that all their problems are all the cause of this public figure or that political party or “those people,” etc. What sad and empty lives “against-itis” must lead to. This blog entry should be required reading for everyone.

Thank you Darren! I have little patience for people complaining about what’s wrong with society and have no intention of doing anything about it. It’s like a hobby for some. I recently had to put an an end to my favorite- complaining about where rich, famous people spend or donate their money. (In this case it was JayZ)I had sto say “Okay, if it’s so important to you why don’t you go out and get rich so you can do something about it instead of telling Jay Z how he should spend his!”
[DARREN HARDY] Great example, Danielle! Thanks and kudos to you for getting out there and setting others straight!

I know so many people who are negative and I usually tune them out but now I feel I have a comeback to them. Thanks for this great article! I sent it to all my friends. Hopefully they’ll learn something from it. I was downsized almost two years ago and have been building my home-based Virtual Assistant business since then. Your magazine has been an inspiration to me in these tough times. My husband and I listen to your Success CD’s every night while we are drifting off to sleep. Great messages even if it is getting to us subliminally! We look forward to the magazine and new CD each month.

Hello Darren,
Great Series…
Unfortunately I fell behind on completing the worksheets last month and went to retrieve them from the archive…only to find that the password no longer works. Is there a new password that I may have overlooked?
Thank You!
[MAGGIE SCOTT] Hi Mark! Just sent you an email with the info.

Grrrreat article!
Weeding out the negative is a difficult thing these days. I have enough looming self-imposed negativity to furnish a small city in the 8 inches between my ears.
1. Shut off the media and news – I start by filtering the things I can control
2. Limit my associations to like minded individuals.
3. Read 10 – 15 minutes of a good book that will train my thinking evey day
4. Listen to at least 1 hour of motivational training each week. More if time allows
5. Join conference calls & webinars 1 – 2 times weekly to keep me up on positive activity every week.
6. I write about the positive things I learn about. I find that giving away ideas heps the world in a positive way. http://www.jchristensengroup.wordpress.com
Thanks Darren!

Thank you, Darren for this wonderful article. It made a big difference to my life and some of my friends whom I forwarded your article through blog, twitter, facebook etc.
Sometimes we are so engaged in complaining about trouble that we failed to see the opportunities it brings. Every best turnover starts at a point where we have a difficulty that forces us to change or improve or see what may not see generally. Hopefully this economy recession and health care drama will bring the best solution if people will be positive in what they do. Thanks again for making the difference in many of our life.
