“If you only read one book, ever… THIS is it!”
That is what Kevin Small, former president of John Maxwell’s company, founder of The Marcus Buckingham Company and owner of ResultSource said to me when we met for a quick cup of coffee together.
I was taken aback. Flattered yes, but I was intrigued why. Then Kevin explained the story of how he read The Compound Effect with his young son Grant.
He explained how they read the book chapter by chapter together. They each highlighted different passages and then wrote their best ideas and action plans on each flap of the book. Grant’s on the left and Kevin’s on the right. At the end of each week, they would discuss how they did on their goals. It created discussions and a connection unlike any other experience.
Kevin said, “This book (as he held up The Compound Effect) is the most treasured book in my entire library (his library is colossal!). He went on to say, “Because it is the only book that documents one of the most enriching experiences I have ever had with my son Grant.” And then he said what’s in the subject line, “If you only read one book, ever, with your child, this is the one.”
It’s a great idea. If you have kids, order copies to read it with them chapter by chapter. If you have some friends who have kids, buy them a copy and/or forward this post to them.
Be sure to come back and tell us your story. This is why we do what we do!

Everybody in my team gets a copy of the Compund Effect as soon as they reach Team Leader position within our organisation. Having read it several times myself and used examples in the book on friends and family… I can guarantee that it works.

I’ve got to say that I just love this story. It is so real and authentic. Relationships are the most important thing in life. Communication is the most important skill. And here we see The Compound Effect creating the atmosphere for a relationship of father and son to learn and grow together as they read and communicate with each other about the content. This is truly remarkable Darren. Actually it’s PRICELESS!

Darren,
You have lost your way. Your endless blog posts begging people to buy your “stuff” (“book”/magazine subscription etc) is quite elementary for someone who claims to be a “self-made man/millionaire”. Perhaps you should achieve a level of success first and then people will be naturally drawn to you rather than attempting to convince people that you are successful!
You used to be a positive source of information and mentoring for me, but I’m afraid that time has long past.
All the best with your convincing yourself and others you’re a success, goals for 2011.

@Francis,
When I read your post the first thing that came to mind was “what an idiot!”
I think you are way off base here. I loved the The Compound Effect audio program so much that I bought 10 copies and gave it to close friends and business associates. Every one of them has had nothing but positive things to say about what they heard. I love the way Mr. Hardy speaks and communicates the information. If you are not a fan than move on. Knowbody’s begging you to buy anything as far as I can tell. But those of us who get the message Mr. Hardy is preaching appreciate the blessing received from reading the book or listening to the audio program.
As for being a success I don’t there is any question that Mr. Hardy is a success. If you can’t see that then you are blind in addition to being an idiot. I know more than a few mutli-millionaires personally who also really liked the message in The Compound Effect. So much so that they now suggest it to their friends and associates. With respect to money, I’m sure Mr. Hardy has made more money than you or I combined. I know that to be true in my case for sure. And I suspect if you had actually made anything out of your life and had any level of success, you wouldn’t have even taken the time to write something negative. Successful people focus on their success and helping others. Broke, unsuccessful people blame everyone else for their situation. I think everyone reading these posts knows what group you are in.

@Ted,
Strong command of the English language by calling Francis an “idiot”.
Perhaps you feel the need to defend a stranger (Darren) because in doing so it justifies your purchase of his “book” and your subscription to Success Magazine. I too used to find Darren’s blog (his original WordPress blog) insightful and value giving, but the past year Darren has decided to beg people to send him money by way of his “book” and I find the change unfortunate. If he had such a world-changing book, how come he is not a billionaire and why would he waste his time hawking his “book” to a few hundred readers? Shouldn’t Darren be an Olympic athlete by now? Shouldn’t he OWN Success Magazine and it’s parent company?
It’s like Jim Rohn, he made what money he had from telling others how to live! He also started out in multi level marketing, like AVON, selling garbage products to lonely senior citizens.
Anyhow, to Ted and the others, just remember, the kool-aid always tastes best when it’s fresh.

@Shannon,
I chose “idiot” because it was the first thing that came to mind.
My point was that many people I know find “The Compound Effect” very helpful, whether its in book or audio form. I have not had 1 person who listened to the program say anything negative about it.
As for his stepped up marketing for the book, that’s nothing new for authors. I don’t have a problem with it. My opinion is if you don’t like whats on the blog,. if you don’t agree with how Darren markets his products, feel free to move on. That being said, it is a free country so do what you like. I was defending the content of the program more than anything.
Lastly, your comment about Jim Rohn makes me think you are not a fan of network marketing. If you like and understand and have experienced the many benefits of network marketing and I misunderstood your post then please forgive these next comments.
Network marketing is a GREAT industry. Numerous financial and business experts speak about the many positive things you can get from the network marketing experience with money just being one of them. The business, life, leadership and wealth skills you can learn in this industry are better than any 4 year college experience. If you don’t think network marketing works then you just have not looked at the right opportunity. In the opportunity I am involved with, $500,000 a yr or more is very common for the top leaders. Some even earn on average close to $70k a month. And this is not from selling garbage products to senior citizens. Its from marketing products and services people use every day. You may not believe me but that’s not my concern. I know these people personally, hang at their houses, ride in their cars, go on trips with them, etc. I know it’s real and possible.
Well I think we’ve beat this dead horse long enough as they say. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. So we can just agree to disagree.
iam reading it and post some comments as soon as posible Mr Darren Hardy
